Polymorfa vs Evolution API

Evolution API is a free, self-hosted WhatsApp gateway with a Baileys channel and a Cloud API channel, plus Chatwoot, Typebot and queue integrations. Polymorfa is an operated service: we run the servers, reconnects and protocol upgrades, and add calls, coexistence and signed webhooks.

Choose Evolution API if

  • You have the people to run and patch a gateway and want to pay only for servers.
  • You already use its Chatwoot, Typebot or message-queue integrations.
  • You are comfortable with its license conditions.

Choose Polymorfa if

  • You do not want an on-call rotation for WhatsApp disconnects and library upgrades.
  • Your product cannot show a third-party "uses Evolution API" notice, which its license requires unless you buy a commercial license.
  • You need to place and answer calls, or use coexistence numbers.
  • You need signed webhook payloads and idempotent sends.

Each gateway needs servers, a database for session keys, reconnect handling and upgrades when WhatsApp changes its protocol. Someone has to respond when numbers disconnect at night.

Routes

The official route and coexistence, too.

WAHA and OpenWA run linked-device engines only. Evolution API adds a Cloud API channel but documents no coexistence. Polymorfa connects linked-device, Cloud API and coexistence numbers (the last two in beta).

Both WhatsApp routes arrive through one contract. Moving a number between routes does not mean rewriting your integration.
Tenancy

Built for serving many customers.

The Customers API gives each client their own numbers, pairing links and scoped tokens, with an audit log and export. OpenWA describes its own multi-tenancy as not implemented.

Evolution API's license requires a visible notice in any product that uses it, unless you buy a commercial license. Polymorfa adds no notice to your product.
